Ok folks, as some of you are interested in the InstaUnlagged 1.2 mod I thought I'd chuck together a quick v1.2 server.
Look for it on ASE (or GameSpy)
It's running under Gentoo Linux on an old 400mhz box I had lying around the place.
Due to my connection I've limited the number of players to 6 - and a rate of 3500. Ok, that sounds low - but read on! You'll need AutoDownload on too, as you'll download a small client-side PK3 which InstA 1.2 needs.
At the mo', it's running a few standard baseq3 maps - as I said, it's really only a test thingy at present. I'll try and keep it on-line for as long as poss. But my Inet connection is shared, so if it starts affecting other's browsing and so on I may have to limit its on-line time.
Ok - here are some cool things to be found in InstA 1.2:
Game Stats:
Yep, at the end of each game just bring down your console to see your hit/miss/accuracy statistics - and those of the other players too.
Anti-Camp
Yep, you read that right! Stay in one spot for too long (programmable timer, set at 10secs on mine) and you'll get a "Get Moving Or Else" warning! If the player doesn't get moving in the last chance countdown (5secs on mine) they will be thrown into Spectator mode. You can also set it to kick them too, if you're feeling Nasty!
Fully Programmable Vote Vars
This is my fave - everything you can vote is now selectable, it's no longer an all-or-nothing arrangement. This is nice as you can allow players to change maps, but disallow them to arse around with gametypes and weapon rates Etc. So, no more players setting your server to a 1v1 DM17 game and then boogering off without resetting it back! Nice!
Server-Side Skip Correction
Here's why I said read on when I said the rate was 3500! Under 1.2 the server will carry out skip correction if players have poor connection. So, all players should look smooth to the others in the game. This remains to be seen, and obviously depends on the other players receiving the server's packets!
Ok. As I said, it's only a test really - so don't bitch too much if you're lagging! ;D
Neo.
