I am in the process of trying to back up my old puter onto our new shiny beastie we just got ;D but can't get a network connection so looks like I am gonna have to do it all on blank disks
I keep getting the message cable unplugged but it isn't It did work after I tried swapping the NIC to a different slot but as soon as I started messing with access rights it went back to the cable unplugged scenario anyone have any ideas on this i.e. should I maybe try new cables (there doesn't look like anything is wrong with my old ones) as I am starting to get to the bang the head on the desk stage now
Need a little more info Blade. Are you just adding this old PC to your network? Or are you connecting the two together? Either way it's going to take forever to move everything over. Maybe you can borrow and external DVD burner to do the job.
Just in case: don't forget...if you're trying to connect two pc's together you need a crossover network cable...cat5 network cable won't work.

;D Hi m8 I used to have a LAN before one of the comps died a death so I just connected the old computer and new together same as I used to have them on my old lan thinking it would be pretty straight forward (think again) anyway m8 I am in the process of backing up all the Mrs work on to re-writable disks at the moment will see how I get on with her stuff might try networking them up again for my stuff as I have around 10 times as much stuff to back up ;D

Yes...not enough input. Is a router involved? Do you have the workgroup names inputted? Do you have file and print sharing enabled? So many questions...... got any issues, feel free to email also... Very rarely we can't figure it out i.e. Klutz.....

out searching tweaks...because I like to keep updated... I have a full library of tweaking sites and downloads. Found one I never came across before, thought I'd share it. The SP2 area under Broadband made me go "hmmmmm...." [ftp]http://www.speedguide.net/[/ftp]

OKIE DOKIE BLADE...... I will pick and choose helpful hints after we get you sorted... and post it. Too many people have been having the same issue lately, so this may be a very useful topic.
