OK Shelby, first of all, this is a way to keep ALL inverted players off of the servers. So, deal with it.
Or, according to PB, this is the issue:
Why am I getting kicked for PB Guid Auth: UNKN?
The "PB GUID AUTH: UNKN" kicking means that your Game client is not sending a valid cdkey to id's cdkey auth server. Usually this is due to a problem with your cdkey entry. Exit Quake3 and then use your Windows explorer program to find the baseq3 folder where Quake3 is installed on your system and delete the file called q3key. Launch Quake3 directly and before you get to the game's main menu, it should ask you to enter your cdkey. Be sure to enter the 16 character cdkey from your Quake3 cd-case in all lower case letters. NOTE: If your cdkey has 18 characters, then you are not finding the right key. Team Arena keys have 18 characters, Quake3 keys have 16. If this does not fix the problem, then perhaps there is some type of firewall or security software blocking your game's communication to id's cdkey auth server. Be sure that UDP port 27952 is open for clear communication if you have a firewall or some type of security software. Note: A cdkey is only valid if you bought the game and have a cdkey on your cd-case! Using a cdkey generator will allow you to overcome the checksum check within Quake3, stating that your cdkey is valid - it is only valid for single player though and will not allow you to play on the internet.
I still think it's the inverted thing though

I also looked at that jeff, tried deleting the key then re-entering, no joy, i dont understand anything to do with my firewall but i dont think it is that either. Was playing on the server fine one day, the next...bang i get kicked and i have changed nothing.
Its the F8 clanserver thats causing the problem Bully (although it could be others as well, i only tried one other after i was kicked but that worked fine)
And Unisaw i use invert mouse ie if i pull the mouse towards me, in game i look up, if i push forwards i look down, it is the best way to do things, how it was done back in the good old days, now all these younsters have come along and started doing it all wrong lol

WOW...I had no idea I was playing inverted. (Unless you explained that the wrong way Shelb)
well Shelby, kick by pb for UNKNOW status is just because your not a valid cd key.
u can join many servers who accepts UNKNOW key.. but many servers like 6006 or f8 kick all un-valid cdkey.. i think admin need to have cd key for ban ppl right now... i mean in the past we banned ppl by ip, numbers of your mother-card. but now, it's more simple to ban with cd-key... and for have a real cd key, u need to buy quake...... that's why cd-key is the last solution for ban ppl... i can say you mate that quake cost not more than 5€ right now
btw, we all want to swap into .32, and we all know this kind of prob with pb, i mean if all communauty will move in .32, UNKNOW cd key will be authorized.. ofc u can contact the admin of the server, and tell him to accept UNKNOW KEY... that your 2nd solution
later
PS: oh btw, i luv pb, just coz he can ban cheater... and an admin can see with cvars 2 if ppl cheats so... pb + cvar is better than nothin....

joy of joys my punkbuster has broken again (different computer this time). On one server i'm getting this pb guid auth: unknown business again and i have tried all the previous suggestions for fixing it and none have worked, and on another server i'm getting unpure client detected invalid pk3 files referenced any more suggestions?? Thanks
U know my tech level... it's on a par with your own
but from a 'Columbo' point of view.
You say the problem has arisen this time while using a different pc... so what's different and what's the same? Software-Firewall/Copy of game and internet provider.
How did you finally sort it last time? I'd concentrate on those things - and possibly consider buying a new copy of the game and give that a try if it's a recurring problem. Remove your version fixer?
There's endless cd error posts on the net - it's just a case of wading through them.
lol cheers wolfie, deleting the pb folder and reinstalling worked last time but this time it does nothing, its the same copy of quake, maybe i'll have to try buying another copy
Hiya Shelby. I perhaps didn't make myself clear earlier - when I suggested buying a new copy of Quake III Arena. It's worth a try if your other known 'fixes' aren't working - perhaps a new cd key would solve the problem?
The real reason for mentioning this is - it's cheap to pick one up. You can get a copy of Arena Gold for a few quid and it has Team Arena in the box as well... how bad can that be? - a whole new Quake for you and several new weapons (including a quite splendid nailgun FAARRRR superior to that in Q4) anyway I digress (as usual) If it works - it's a cheap and easy fix for you.
Failing that - you're back in amongst the gubbings of your pc... and I know how you just love that
why does nothing to do with computers ever work porperly??? I'm dubious as to whether i'll ever see my lovely dual core again since Mesh are bloody useless anyway, did i hear/read somewhere that there is a triple pack of quakes 1-3 on the market??? maybe that would be a wise purchase

When in doubt, go directly to the source: Why am I getting kicked for PB Guid Auth: UNKN?
