Hey guys
Recently I cleaned out my computer in order to make a 'clean' image of my system. Some of the software on it is very hard to get, if not impossible, so it was about time I made an image. A few days ago however, I discovered that my computer doesn't play wmv files properly anymore. When I open one (regardless in what mediaplayer) it will only produce sound, as for video-> total blackness. Now I tried all kinds of things: installing codecs even the wmv codecs on microsoft site. Deinstalled and reinstalled WMP. But no luck. Apparently it has something to do with Zylom games I uninstalled. (Be warned: NEVER install Zylom games! And no, I didn't do it) So my question, do I really have to reinstall my OS?

I don't know what that problem is. I would install the k-lite mega codec pack (I suggest googling, I don't have the link here now) - it installs very many codecs so you can play like everything in your media player.
If nothing works, try having the VLC player (www.videolan.org/vlc) set as your default player. It's meant to play everything but of course with wmv it SOMETIMES has problems. Not often, but some videos don't have sound when playing them in vlc. Try it hehe. Microsoft is a booger.

Did you turn your monitor on? Teehee, sorry, I couldn't resist. If snowy's suggestion doesn't help, I might be able to help. The same thing happened to me a while back. I forgot what I did, but I think I might be able to remember if I mess with it a bit.

hey snowy it worked! I changed my monitor settings and at first I thought my computer was totally screwed and had to reinstall my drivers. But what do you know...I reboot my puter and voila! I can watch them wmvs again. Now I still have to check some other things, but this is improvement for sure! Thanks m8!
ok so I checked these other things (in my editing tool I couldn't maximise the screen that shows the movie) but that works again too!!! I don't know how this all happened but I'm glad it's all good now. Thanks again!!
