The problem I had was that Win98 is FAT32 file system and my old hard drive was NTFS, as I was running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Win98 can't read NTFS, so the utiliy I used initially was compromised from the outset.
So yesterday I loaded XP Pro (Service Pack 2) over my Win98 SE emergency installation. Xp Pro can read FAT and NTFS, and it read the slave drive just fine.
I got all my old maps and everything!
So I started the server, saw people joining and thought "hooray!".
But I woke this morning, and the comuter was in hibernation. That's why you guys couldn't get on! Damn pesky XP Pro had automatically set itself to switch off after 1 hour of no user input. So now I have removed all power-saving settings, etc, so hopefully it'll stay up - just liek viagra
As Bruce said so eloquently in Die hard: Yippee-Ki-aye-mutha-fudger!
