OK, I am about to change my Anti virus. I "was" going to put in Norton 2006, but I have been hearing a lot of bad things about it. On a review site, it got 3 out of 6 stars. Here is how they rated them. Gimme your opinion please if you have experience with any of them. I have a tendacy to download a lot of things that need to be scanned. So far, Norton has been good, I am scared to get something if it will bite me in the assets.
Well i have heard that the 2006 version of NAV is faster & less resource hoggin that previous versions but there are much better progs with better detection.
1) The Shield Pro i have never heard of.
2)Bitdefender 8 or 9 is a good app with good detection &heuristics & the defs are updated almost daily, scan time is slow tho due to it unpackin a lot of files. Also has a free version with no resident scanner just a on demand scanner.
3)Kaspersky 5 is a good setup, has the best detection & unpackin engine on the market, can slow down the boot process due to its startup scan, best used with the extended databases. They are beta testin the KAV 2006 version that is supposed to be even lighter on the system & has HTTP scannin & proactive defense (similar to ProcessGuard) Should be out at the start of 2006 & prolly Ur best bet ( If U buy KAV 5 U can upgrade to 2006 version usin same license key.
4)Panda i have never really liked, slows down the system too much & they dont encrypt their signatures files which leads to other A/V's pickin them up as false positives, also the Tru Prevent system saucks the life out of a fast pc.
5)McAfee Virusscan is good as well, detection is up there with the best, bad points are the use of active X controls to update it & the annoying security centre thing it loads at startup.
6)Trend has a loyal fanbase but the detection could be much better, also includes the CWS Shredder tool (Trend bought the rights to it)
7)Nortons, some like it many dont, loads way too many processes & startup items, slow with updates & very bloatware like.
At the mo im using NOD v2, very light on resources & memory, damn good advanced heuristics & very customizable, regular updates & a two or three year license can be bought for about the same as buyin a one year sub to one of the bigger A/V's
A good free A/V is Avast, just download & register (free) at the website & it will protect U from many threats, has modules for on demand, resident, IM protection, P2P protection, POP3 mail scanner or of U use Outlook (not OE) the Outlook module and a network shield.
AVG i wouldnt bother with as the detection is crap & the prog causes more probs than it solves.
There are also a couple of dual scannin engine antivirus apps like Gdata (KAV & RAV engine) or AVK 2006 (KAV & Bitdefender engines)
My recommendation would be KAV 5 or KAV 2006 as it has simply the best & highest rated detection goin & is also the best A/V for trojans.

I use AntiVir and I never got a Virus (except my own one). I keep updating it and like it. I installed that because one Virus earlier managed to break my Norton Antivirus.. Incredible.

I ran into the worst system issues I have ever seen! It was the worst fix I have ever encountered. His computer was hit by lightning and it cooked the Motherboard to what a Steakhouse would consider "perfectly well done". Well, I ordered a motherboard for him, but it kept coming up with a bad bad bad virus right after XP was installed. After two days of scratching one part of my head until it went bald, I came to the decision it "must" have a virus in the bios that for whatever reason, I could not bypass, flash, ( no, I did not strip in front of it. However, if it would have worked, I would have) or just get this virus issue figured out. So, bad motherboard= order another motherboard. So, new board installed, windows installed...same thing! So, now not only am I depressed because of my current state in life, now I am just plain ticked off at this inanimate object in front of me. Another day wasted trying to come to a conclusion..... more hair loss, debating on stripping for the computer now... FINALLY, today, it is fixed, all software installed and it went home to it's Owner. Don't ask me how I fixed it. A little luck, a little knowledge, and a lot of swearing.
Be good to yourself and yours

I am thinking of how these things are called. Description: One appears in the intro of the film The Big Lebowski.. they often roll around in the desert, they are a ball of hay or so. Do you have special names for them in English-speaking countries? One of that would fit now rolling from the left to the right of your screen
yeah when it loads up i can read it but once it's fully loaded the damn background color screws with it, instead of clicking 500 cpm you can drag across it with mouse like you were going to copy it then you can read it or change settings in ie if you still can't read it it's because you haven't taken German classes.
