I am in Phoenix Klutz old man, but I will try and help clarify. Proto 66 warning is because the server is using 1.30 and you are not.. you need the version switcher, which I think was posted here recently unless that was on Hots forum.. I will have to look. As for the eye.... are you going to make me look through all of my old discs? Great to hear from ya!

Hey klutz long time.
If u need any further help to access the nastyclan servers visit the hottub forum. I am in the process of setting up a detailed thread on how to install and play iu1.2beta3 on point release 1.30. Thread lso includes setting up point release switcher. The thread will be posted by the end of the day under begginers forum. Links are availiable for all the files u need to access the nastyclan servers. Feel free to ask for whatever u need if u have any further issues.

sounds good. What we need to do is organise times so we can get as many playing together as possible. Post the times u r avaiable and we can sortout some games.
Klutz how r u fixed now, can u join and play on the servers?

Yup, back in using the switcher, I beleive this can be put in the base file and become automatic, still could do with the Eye, is it speak like a pirate day?

If I ever make it home I can send it to you. It is a tricky thing to use now with all of the master servers for it not working.... I will need to make a custom list and send it to you. Florida this week, Arizona next..no end in sight at the moment...

hey penny
Its not the nvidia drivers thats stopping the 1:30 point release working. You need to execute quake.exe in xp compatible, 32 bit rrather than the 64 bit. 1:32 does work ok generally in 64 bit but its better to run the game 32.
Try right clicking the quake.exe file in your quake dir and switching compatiability mode to win xp or 7 32 bit. Quake 1:30 and 1:31 works great on windows 7 64 bit if you config it right. Give it ago see if it makes a difference.
Sadly, I've already tried this and it made no difference under XP-x64. 1.30 and 1.31 work just fine under XP-x64 if I revert back to an older Nvidia driver, but this isn't really an option for me.
Why do the Nasty severs run older versions? What is the advantage? I never had a problem with 1.32 and can't "sense" any difference when playing (when I could!) 1.30 or 1.31 against a server using 1.32.

We have ran the servers for many years using the 1.30 point release. Not quiet sure why it was this setup which we adopted, best ask Jeff about that one. I have ran the hottub servers on 1.32 but more players seem to be visiting the servers when we have it set to 1.30 My excessiveplus server is running 1.32 and its running the iu1.2beta3 config at the moment so its this mod in an excessive mode. I am up for a move of point release if it became the general concensus and everyone wanted it. Why not start a new thread and add a poll to see what everyone thinks about 1.32

Penny, try setting your seta r_mode to 4 or 6 (that worked for me when getting it working on Win7)
I guess people use 1.30 because it's the out-of-the-box setup, and "new" players won't know about the 1.32 release. I can get it working on 1.30,1 and 2, so I'm all right jAck

Hi Gimpy!
Nope - still didn't work and I tried all 1 to 10 values (it's basically only the display resolution that this system-var controls)... I also tried having a completely empty config - letting Q3 set everything to default. Still didn't work.
I'm going to spend an hour or so seeing if I can get this to work... I see Nvidia have released an updated driver so this is what I'll try first. However, the last few Nvidia driver releases have all had this problem so I'm not holding out much hope.
Strange, because if I go back far enough with the Nvidia drivers it all works fine - so I know it used to work! Lol!
It was the filenames I was using for each point release! I had 1.30 called quake3130.exe and as soon as I renamed it quake3.exe it worked fine!
Quite why this didn't cause a problem with earlier Nvidia drivers is a mystery. But I guess it might be something to do with the later Nvidia drivers scanning for certain 3D programs and games on your system so it can adjust settings to suit - and it probably expects Q3 to be called quake3.exe?!?!?!
Anyway, now it works so you can all expect to get your arses kicked in the not-too-distant future!
I Build maps for Q3A and while doing some research I found this little tidbit of info. I am sure it would effect alot of older programs in some way or another.
Here is what I was reading.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users
The Windows Aero theme and the Gtk+ Toolkit don't work well together. Thankfully, there is an easy workaround. After installation, right-click on the GtkRadiant.exe and choose "Properties". Click on the "Compatibility" tab and under "Settings", check the "Disable desktop composition" option. Click on "Apply" and "OK".
Whenever starting up GtkRadiant, Windows will disable the desktop theme and start up normally. Don't be alarmed if a few extra Windows features are disabled, like taskbar window previews. Close GtkRadiant and Windows will go back to the default desktop theme.
Windows Vista and 7 both consider certain directories to be "protected" directories, meaning you don't normally have read/write access to them. For security reasons, this is a good idea since it prevents rogue software/malware from installing stuff in places it shouldn't.
Both Linux and OS X have done this for ages and Windows is only now catching up to the idea. To be able to have full access to them, you have to give yourself temporary elevated administrative privileges. Linux/OS X do "sudo", Windows does UAC in the form of a popup that asks you to confirm. For this reason, turning off UAC is a bad idea, you are basically giving any program the ability to automatically do whatever without user intervention. If you get any kind of malware, you are essentially screwed.
Windows Vista and 7 now consider the "Program Files" directory to be a protected directory. You do not normally have write access to those subdirectories, so that is why you are having problems modifying map files, since they are by default sitting in "C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\". You may have noticed a lot of programs stick their logs, preference files, and other application files in your "User Application Data" directory, somewhere in your user files instead of inside the actual program directory. This is because the programs don't have access to the "Program Files" directory and need to routinely save or make changes to those files, so that's why they have been moved to a new unprotected location.
Ideally, you want to move your Quake directory somewhere else or work on a new clean installation of Quake 3 (you should be doing this anyway) outside of "Program Files", like "C:\GameDev\" or something. That should solve many issues both with security and with game development.
It may also affect things like autodownload in q3.
