Maybe he's too young to appreciate the sacrifice that hundreds of thousands of people made to protect the freedom their countries.
You'll learn about it at school, Doop. Most of the younger generation are simply numbed by the modern world of media and hype, distant from the gritty truth that gives people genuine character.
Just pay a visit to the fields in Northern France/Belgium and see it for yourself; you can still feel the atmosphere in the air. It is VERY spooky and makes you think real hard about how easy you have it now - and it's all because of their efforts that you are here right now.

Thank you, Gimp and Babe. As some of you may or may not know, my husband is in the military (27 years). He was the parade commander this year at the base. They remember the soldiers that passed....it's quite a choked up day for them...and after services, they hear stories of days gone by with the old veterans at their local legions.
Remembrance Day in Canada is simply a day off to some....normal working day for others....It's sad to know that some people don't know the meaning of it all or understand the freedoms that they have today. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that the US have Veterans Day on November 11th. Do they call it Remembrance Day where you are, Babe? Some people I find have been reflecting on the 911 tragedy on this day as well.
Anyway, the whole point of November 11th is to "Remember" why and how we got where we are today. To appreciate what we have....and to remember those heros of days gone by.
Okay, this is turning into a book....and I must frag!

Zena's link at the top no longer works, so here it is:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

Thank you, Gimp....paying tribute as well to the many Americans and Canadians that are still overseas...and to the young who have fallen.

Here in the states we call it Veterans Day. We too honor the military and remember all that they are doing and have done for everyone. Unfortunately, the only people who seem to have off are the government. The kids are in school and Jeff is at work. However we had a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday in which we honor the military and our son was in the parade with the Boy Scouts. On a personal note, my grandfathers, father and uncles have all served in the military and my brother in law just got back from his second term in Iraq and will soon be going back serving in the airborne division. It's a very difficult time but we must be proud of everyone and never forget why they do what they do.
