Have got fkin' tired of this NTL connection - I tried to come back to q3, only to be thrust back into the void by a 1.5mbit/£40/month connection that pings an avg of 100 with spikes up to sweet 999.
Anyhow, that ends...now
Have ordered a BT line and tomorrow morning, I'll be ordering the new 8mbit connection that's available around manchester. If all goes well, it'll be 0.5 mbti up and 8mbit down.....juicy!
If less well, 0.25mbti up, 2mbit down.. but I'm hopeful for a tasty real connection ;p

8mbit? imagine all the...... uh...... movies you can download.....
I guess the art of dial-up Quake 3 is a dying one... But if all goes well, it'll be dead for me too; with any luck, sometime within a few months I'll have DSL!
It's £50 setup, £40/month. Normally, you have to buy an overpriced, crappy router for £70 too, but that's free at the moment. It'll be shared amongst some of my other housemates, but we have strict controls on downloading and stuff... and usually, a different connection to route such traffic through. ;)
A lot of "movies", I guess ;p I wouldn't know about such things, honest, like.
Looks like I may have to wait a few weeks to a month to get the 8mbit. Also, I think there's an offer on for free upgrade from 2mbit to 8mbit.. but it delays everything slightly. Choices, choices :/
Edit: Because I forgot to talk about 56k. I used to love that sweet 200 ping gaming. Really enjoyed it, but on the other hand, was the first to jump ship to the broadbandwagon :p #nosmileys
Lol ;) For the price, it's not really that much more... Try to sell her on the fact you get a wireless router free - yearly fee = 480 - 70 for wireless router = 410 = 34/month ;p cheap, right?
If you do go for it, make sure you tell them I referred you (uk online email = aekeron@ukonline.co.uk) muwahah. If you have paypal, can easily share the free month :p
The 8mbit connection won't be available until late Mar. But, after speaking with one of their support guys (on the forums at adslguide.org.uk), I have ordered 2mbit now with a view to a free upgrade to 8mbit as soon as it's available. Woo.
Sweet proper broadband again. *hugs his adsl router*
I know in Tokyo, you can get 100mbit connections for the same sort of price we pay for 2mbit lines atm.
Only problem is, the connections out of Japan are so poor that they still get pretty bad speeds when connecting to america/european/etc sites/servers :/
