I am tweaking it as we speak...... for those of you that have the private pass from mine, it is enabled for 2 slots..... rcon is the same..... As for the rate. All that the rate will do is limit the amount of information people can suck up in bandwidth.... if I go too high, 56k'rs cannot play correctly. By leaving it at 10000, will not lag people, it would help more than anything. I have been making configs for people for 2 years now. A lot of servers out there are mine. However, if I raise it, it will make it more solid for people like me, that are 5000 miles away. However, Canned and Zena would be suffering..... what to do!!!! I will try a 20,000 rate and test it. If people have issues, please tell me. Normally I would NEVER EVER go above 10,000- but if they are going to give me a 6 meg line to play with, by all means, I will toy around with it!

HiHo, i was playing on that server for a couple of minutes and it is working fine for me. I got a Ping of 50 and thats enough. So connect on the Server and tell us ur experiences.
Cya aRound
Ps.: This is just a Test Server for 24 hours or am i wrong?

Sorry Jeff, but you're only half correct here!
Rate will help from the servers point of view, basically stopping players with huge rates sucking all the available bandwidth. However, your server is on at least 1000mbit and as Q3 has an internal rate cap of 25000 you're safe. Basically, if all your players pushed their rates to 50000 Q3 on the server would still cap each player to 25000.
Then you have the other side of the coin, that of data packet size. As more players join the server the size of each data packet (and there are at least 20 per second per player) increases. More data packets = more bandwidth, obviously. Now, if you've set the server rate too low then players will start to miss packets. This is intentional, Q3 will automatically drop packets and start interpolating information based on the last packet it saw if it can't fit all of the data for all of the players in the set rate. This is why you see the green part of the "lagometer" turn yellow.
Also, playing on a server with many people, but the server's rate is too low, will feel strange. Not laggy, but sort of sluggish, almost like you're moving in fluid and not in air!
If the server is pumping enough packets, and your Q3 snaps are tuned to the server's sv_fps (usually 20, but some dedicated servers use 30) your lagometer should stay green. With the occasional yellow if in a large fire-fight with the BFG, or when first entering a map for example.
Having a higher rate won't damage 56kers playability, as their client will only be able to request 3 to 4 k per second at best. So 56kers Q3 client is almost always interpolating information!
Trust me, a higher rate is the way to go. You're on a gigabit pipe, so why choke it! ;D
OK ok ok ok.... I won't argue with you except for one thing, and this only comes from experience.... higher rates and 56k'rs is sure death. We have tried it in the past, in theory, it shouldn't matter, but the simple fact is that it does. Most of us were 56k at one time, and we know the pains of it. For instance, old server, 3 meg line... whenever we would raise the rate, the slower connections would suffer.... But, who am I to argue with genius... you keep me on my toes, I LIKE THAT!
anyway, why I am here..I am dismantling the Nasty Home server today. It will be back up, however, I am going to look into a rental. I want to do this. Keep eyews open please, tell me of others. I will study them from the west coast....out

Hehehe, ok, fair enough! The proof of the pudding, as they say! And I stand to be corrected!
There are lots of server deals out there, but there aren't too many that give you the opportunity of a free trial, certainly not public trials. 6006 will give you a free trial, but that will be password protected.
Because your clan is international you could really do with a server on each continent, but then things start getting expensive.
Still, I spent some time on your 24hr server and it ran very nice. Ping averaged around 20-30, even when the server was busy, which is pretty sweet!
Whatever you decide to do, a dedicated server tied direct to the 'net backbone is the way to go. Especially given the size of your clan. 6 slot servers on domestic (and therefore relatively unstable) connections really don't cut it.

I played on it for around an hour & a half my ping was up and down between 35 - 45 most of the time, the highest ping I had was 48 with the lowest being 28 played pretty well only time i lagged was when people connected as you would expect.
One of us 56kers need to try it out...Canned and I are the worst for this issue....After one of us try it...and we say we're AOK, then mb you have a winner....I'll let you know if I get an opportunity to play tonight.....
Why would I want to chip in to pay for a server that gave me a 150 ping when I was on by myself?
The lowest I got was 125 and it didn't play any better than Gimps ever did.
Zena and Canned most likely won't be able to get below 350. If the server gets crowded they'll hardly be able to play.
I'm sure I could adjust my setting to have it play better, but why should I have to? It's taken me four months to find the best settings to work on most servers. I'm paying 5 times more for broadband than I was paying for dial up. I certainly don't want to go back to being a high ping. (relatively speaking)

I've got to admit, I'm with Mr Frosty on this one.
If we were a serious clan for playing tournaments, etc, with committed players all aiming for perfect skills, then yes. But we're Nasty and just having a laugh in whatever spare time we can find.
I know it's only a tiny cost, but nonetheless it's still one further commitment that might remove some of the fun element of why we're here. E.G. If the server has problems, then we might get disgruntled and start moaning because we are paying for a service. And Nasties don't moan.
Maybe it's best to keep the servers we already have and if a server suddenly gets laggy either stick it out, or agree to go to another server. Easy Peasy.

OK, I have had a chance to think about this. The good, the bad and the ugly. One fear I have is paying for a service, and have it over-run by other players. That would be a shame, if we couldn't connect to our own server. And paying the money required for a private server is just kinda silly. I think what I will do is keep mine alive, ( when I re-hook it up), and possibly use Babes idea, make it private. We'll see. I was just getting so upset. Spending a ton of time on it, and not getting the results I expected. This is the very frustrating for me. I have the correct connection for it, hell, it's a 3 meg connection, then to have it lag. If I don't get it back up today, I will upon my return from the west coast.... peace.

I think I have to agree with Snow on this m8 no matter where the server is somone is going to suffer ping wise and I don't think people are gonna want to pay for a high ping. Also there is the chance you will be stuck on a server on your own or maybe can't connect as it is full which would also put people off paying for the service. Normally (when the Nasty servers are ok) I get a decent ping and the gameplay isn't that different to the test server so I think my vote would be on staying as we are.

Same here. Nothing on the new server changed for me except our damn lag was not there but thats not a serverside problem. So what would you pay for? Right what everyone said here.. would be crowded like hell I think, like yesterday already sometimes. The Nasty servers are kind of a little tradition to me
I think we only have to get rid of your little "problem" and all will be as fine as before.
MY SPEEDS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!! Hope they keep up!!!! Dowloading at 3 megs baby!!!!!!!!!! hope all goes well... any lag issues, pls email me, I return the new equipment I bought... had to get on my knees and beg missy...
For those of you that don't know, my server has been having issues. For two days I have dedicated myself to fix the issue. I am almost done doing what I need to do to it, and I hope it will be OK. If it isn't, that could be a good thing. I am digging through all of my logs and I have changed a lot of things.. so if it does happen, it should be easier to define what the issue is. It "appears" that someone was kind enough to drop an evil worm/trojan in my system. My fault actually, I didn't have my security set up the way I should have. I just hope I can fix it without having to partition/format.. Good-day gals and lumps
Have a read to see what it does, basically it best used on a fresh install of windows that U know is safe & patched with latest windowsupdates
Here's a screenie
It not a anti trojan prog, but it can secure Ur pc & stop them gettin in or doing anythin bad, free version can only protect one process, but i can help U with the full version
If U know the filename U can then check it online with Kaspersky's single file online scanner (kaspersky is widely regarded to be one of the best AV & trojan scanners going

Thank you BB, I will look into it. I think mine is now clean... however the server is still getting hammered by requests using port 27960, unbelievable amount..it's still up though, want to see if it's any better... It is the only port that open, and, lol,,,needs to be. I will try and see if I got all. When I formatted the server, I didn't partition...doh! So, if there something that is still there,, I need to scan it also.. Thanks again
