Hello Peeps, Shelby has a boot up issue. I thought that I would throw the post where it belongs.
I answered you on Klutz thread, thought it belonged somewhere else.....
Shelbys response: it did, i switch it on and it beeps at me furiously and sends no signal to the monitor
My response: Oh hell, why didn't you email me. It isn't "dead", it is sick. The beeps it is giving you is to tell you that it is sick silly. They are actually codes. Is the bios an Award bios? If it beeps non stop, it is usually a RAM issue. That usually means ram went poop, and the bios cannot boot properly. It could also be the vid card, but my money is on the ram. Do you have two sticks? If so, pull one out, try to boot. If the same issue occurs, put it back in and pull the other one. If that doesn't work, email me. Do you forget? I build and fix computers silly, shoulda emailed me. Here is a link to get you started: kb.iu.edu/data/afzy.html
ello ello, whats all this then? thx jeff i'll have a go once my internet gets set up, or what i actually mean is i'll find someone who'll know what the hell RAM looks like and let him have a go (absolute computer moron here!) Man is it boring with no internet
Just pull the ... things that fix it from the sides to the outside, then remove one ram thing and start the computer. You will see if it works or not. Can try changing the slots too, that helps sometimes.

DON'T PULL THE RETAINING CLIPS!!!! You gently but firmly press down on them....this will unlock the RAM. Look at the bottom of the RAM closely, it will have a groove that is not exactly center. This is to not let you put in in wrong, it only fits in one way. Then, push the ram in firmly, the clips will pop up and lock it into place

Second option is the Video card. Does your system also have onboard video? Do you remember when it DID boot, what it said when it was booting? "Award Bios" Phoenix" Anything?
i'm afraid i dont remember, i have some sort of geforce card if that means anything, 7800 or something like that. This problem is basically my own fault when the problems started i just kept switching it on and off until it did boot hehe oops
sadly i dont know anyone who is good with computers (unless hoody knows anything about this sort of thing???) which is doubly irritating since i really dont want to take it to a shop as i made the rookie mistake of leaving porn on the desktop and now obviously i cant get on to remove it and i also have no porn to watch!!!

Shelbs... you're back in norfolk now right? What you up to tomorrow (Sat) afternoon? I have the whole afternoon free so we could take a look if you like? Got a new mobile number, will mail you it now.
*EDIT* I know a little about this sort of thing (we're talking about the porn right? )

If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done

Went round to see Shelbers today, we decided it's probably a Vid card error, one long beep followed by two short ones. I think he may send it back since it's all under warranty, but i'll let him fill you in on that.
We went for a couple of beers and a game of snooker (which i lost quite fantastically 3-0)
Next time i'll get ye young shelbers!

thanks again hoodster, i'm going to try and find someone with a vid card with the correct pin set up thingy and whack it in there and see what happens i think, then maybe i'll send it back or maybe i'll just get a new card, the hassle of posting the thing is quite large, now i just need the internet grrrr!

This would be the second time we've gotten together. Shelbs' uni is only about 15 minutes away so we should really do it more often. I guess being a student he's always working hard and studying!!! ummm yeahright
The hardest thing is trying not to call him Shelby, lol

Wouldnt know what he's up to now for he's been missing in action. Dont know where the trickster lives. Maybe close I will ask when I see him. /think out loud
that name business is hard work, i had no idea who you were when you phoned me hood hehe and i have a very stressful 9 hour week, its a wonder i dont collapse from exhaustion. i seem to remember trickster lived quite close to amsterdam but my brain is mush these days so i'm probably wrong
